Justin Kanoya, who has a lifelong passion for music, began DJing in 1990. He currently books more than 40 gigs each year, 95% of which are weddings. He has experience working with large wedding parties (250 guests), medium size (100-250) and small engagements (less than 100). With more than a 100 weddings worked in the past four years, Justin has traveled all over San Diego, working private parties at the Hotel del Coronado, San Diego Marriott, Bahia, Rancho Benardo Inn La Valenica, Prado and more. He has also worked weddings in Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Orange County and Las Vegas. Justin began his DJ career when he was hired to work for TKO DJs in St. Louis, Mo. The company was DJing Justin’s high school homecoming, and managers on-site realized there was something special about a 15-year-old kid who preferred working a crowd into a frenzy than dancing cheek to cheek with his date. “That homecoming dance was my first real date, I didn’t really know what to do or how to act,” he says. “So I just did what I always did at school dances … act crazy and dance with everyone. My date wasn’t too happy with that.” But TKO managers were impressed and asked Justin to interview for a DJ position. During his two years with TKO, Justin DJ’d school functions, weddings, country club events and private house parties all around St. Louis County. In college, Justin was the house DJ in the Student Union Building at Truman State University and hosted his own evening radio program on KNEU, “The Swinging Velveeta Lounge.” Justin has traveled around the U.S. and Japan performing the art of taiko drumming since 1986. He is a public relations professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism.
